If you’ve been a part of our church for any length of time, you know about our three styles of worship: acoustic, semi-loud, and LOUD! It’s definitely one of the things that is part of our DNA…and we love it!

You’ve probably already guessed this, but our music at the Racine campus will reflect what we already do in Kenosha and since we only have one auditorium in Racine… it’s going to be loud!

Worshiping God in music is a matter of the heart. Musicians and vocalists put in multiple hours each week to make sure they are ready to go on Sunday morning. Since many people connect with God through music, and we do this first thing in our worship gathering, this team has a massive responsibility in setting the tone for the rest of the service.

That being said, every single ministry team (greeters, ushers, kid’s welcome team, etc.) works together in creating an atmosphere of worship. Every piece of the Sunday morning puzzle is extremely important.

The answer to this question is an absolute YES! Kids and families make up a huge part of our DNA, from high school students to infants.

Currently, we have five theaters leased at the Renaissance including: four for kids, and one for adults. The age and grade breakdown for the kids will be as follows: one theater for infants and walkers, one for 2 yrs- 35 months, one for 3- 5 yr olds, and one for K– 5th graders. Some of the combinations may seem a little broad, but we will certainly add theaters in the future, in order to keep up with growth.

Both sites will use the same curriculum each week, and will be led and taught by qualified, background-approved individuals. All theaters, like Tinseltown, will be secure and monitored at all times as well.

The check-in/ checkout system is a high tech identification program to make sure you go home with the right kid, along with a text message alert process in case of an emergency during service.

In every theater, GLC kids will have the opportunity to participate in a fun, Bible-based atmosphere, with lessons that they will be able to take home and share.

Who Will Speak In Racine?

Of all the questions that we receive about the Racine Campus, this question, by far is the most popular. The answer is…all of us! What? How? Let me explain.

The GLC pastors (Pastors Dave, Jeremy, and Matt) will share in the speaking responsibility. However, Pastor Dave will continue to speak the majority of the time.

Both campuses will have an on-site pastor to lead, pray with and care for people, AND a live band for worship. However, the weekly talks will fluctuate between “live” teaching and video recordings.

For instance, when Pastor Dave speaks “live” in Kenosha, the Racine Campus will receive the same teaching recorded on video earlier in the week, or vise versa.

It may sound a little strange when you first hear it, but its been proven over the last 15 years to be extremely effective. My guess is that if Jesus or the disciples had this type of technology, they would have used it without hesitation. After all, they were the ones who started the whole concept of multi- site church to begin with. (Acts 8, 18, 1Corinthians 14, 16)

What is a “Preview Service”?

A “preview service” may seem like a generic term to use for a church service, but that’s exactly what it is, and they are critical before launching a new site. For lack of better terms, preview services are basically “dress rehearsals” before the services are publicly announced. Locations, such as the Renaissance Theater in Racine, that allow churches to perform services in their buildings expect individuals to keep their promises in regards to timing and use of the building.

Our three preview services in Racine will serve a dual purpose. First, it will continue strengthening the relationship between GLC and the Renaissance Theater. Secondly, it gives the church an opportunity to practice setting up, executing the service, and tearing down in an effort to fine tune our Sunday mornings.

Our three preview services for the Racine Campus are scheduled on Sundays, June 17th, July 22nd, and August 19th. All three will begin at 10am. For more information about the Racine Campus, email Jeremy at jeremy@greatlakeschurch.com

Why Multi-Site and Why Racine?

The idea of being a multi-site church is definitely not a new one. I even heard one pastor reference multi-site churches by saying that it’s in the, “teen stages of its existence and the best is yet to come.” Multi-site churches began to sporadically pop up around the country in the late 90’s, and haven’t slowed down since. As a matter of fact, churches that become multi-site churches have a 90% success rate at their new sites especially in movie theaters (the way that GLC is currently doing “church”).

You might be asking, “Why become a multi-site church?” Simple…to reach more people for Jesus Christ. As long as Great Lakes Church continues being effective in helping find and follow Jesus Christ, we will continue attending campuses in various locations.

Why Racine? Racine was chosen because of its proximity to Kenosha and because GLC currently has several people who travel from Racine every Sunday to attend church. Eventually, we’d love to have campuses within 15 minutes driving distance of all the people who attend.

God has truly opened doors of opportunity for GLC in Racine and the Renaissance Theater and we can’t wait to get started! Help us by praying that everything will continue to come together in our planning and relationships in the community.

My First Blog!

As my very first official “blog”, I would like to introduce my family to everyone and share a little bit of background about how we got here.

My wife Janet and I have been married for 18 years and have four children; Caleb, Taylor, Seth, and Ella. We began ministry in 2005 near Denver, CO before moving to Racine in January of 2008. At both churches, Janet and I served as Student Ministries Pastor.

In April of 2011, the Lord began to stir a transition in Janet and myself from youth ministry to something different. I had a casual conversation with a fellow youth pastor expressing my interest in finding a healthy church that wanted to multi-site to another location. Little did I know, God was carefully orchestrating something incredible behind the scenes. Last February, I received a call from a guy named, “Dave Nelson from Great Lakes Church”. After he got over the shock and offense that I’d never heard of him or his church (just kidding Dave), he began to tell me about the vision and plans that GLC had in place to multi-site in my area and asked if I was possibly interested in being the Campus Pastor of the new location. Well after two weeks of prayer and several conversations later, the rest is history.

Janet and I are very excited to begin this new journey with GLC and the Racine Campus. We know that God is going to continue to do something really special through the staff and volunteers and we feel blessed to be a part of such a great team. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for Great Lakes Church…
